Since our last visit to Mile Marker Brewery, the brew masters have added some great new unique beers on tap, entertainment, and BBQ for everyone to enjoy. As one of the fastest growing breweries in America’s oldest city, Mile Marker truly has exceeded all expectations in craft brewing and excellent service.

Let’s begin with the most important thing about Mile Marker…the beer! Since our last video, the brew masters have been working extremely hard to create one-of-a-kind beers that are like none other out there. The one I was most excited about was the double brewed IPA, known as the 215 Imperial IPA. If you are an IPA person like yours truly, you will enjoy this. The 215 is in reference to the Kennedy Space Center’s exit and the rebel spacecraft on the tap is there because they used both Millennium and Falconer Flight Hops. Another stand out was the Ginger Ale. A very smooth beer with hints of ginger amongst it, this is a great dinner beer, especially if you have a nice sushi roll to go along with it. The other two that are new since our last video are the Pecan Brown Ale and the Coconut Porter. Both are very flavorful, smooth and if you like a darker beer they are right up your alley.

4There may be no better way to experience the food and culture of the original neighborhoods of Manhattan – than to indulge in tour led by Foods of New York Tours.

Foods of New York Tours was established in 1999 and by many critical accounts is the ultimate food and cultural experience – not only in Manhattan, but throughout the country. PORTRAIT-WEBFor Jerry Shagam, “retired” is a relative term.  The Cascades resident “retired” to World Golf Village with his wife, Lynda, about four-and-a-half years ago from their long-time home in Long Island, NY but his calendar remains as busy as ever.  Jerry credits the abundance of social and recreational opportunities that The Cascades offers for keeping him active but it’s as much to do with Jerry’s outgoing personality and community-oriented spirit.  Jerry Shagam has never slowed down, and if you’re lucky enough to run into him at The Cascades Clubhouse for Tuesday morning coffee, maybe he’ll tell you a joke or his latest fishing story (and maybe even a catching story)!

docSkin cancer is the most common form of cancer throughout the United States. Over the past 31 years, more people have had skin cancer than any other form of cancers combined. It is said that one in five Americans will develop some form of skin cancer during their lifetime.

There is some good news. Skin cancer can be prevented with the proper steps and caution. On Thursday, May 31 at 7:00 pm Dr. Robert Brown of North Florida Dermatology Associates will be presenting a free seminar on Skin Care and Skin Prevention. Hosted by the Davidson Realty as part of their Davidson Speaker Series, Dr. Brown will discuss the importance of sun protection, regular skin check-ups and how to navigate the sea of SPF (Sun Protection Factor) ratings.  Dr. Brown will also discuss how important it is for children to be aware of skin cancer at an early age. “Rates of skin cancer in children, teens and young adults are growing at an alarming rate,” Dr. Brown cautioned.  Throughout the seminar, Dr. Brown will be answering questions, providing insights, and giving advice for minimizing skin aging and maximizing skin health.

Eat-Stop-Eat-healthy-eatingSummer is a family time full of travel and adventure.  However, it can also mean at time of too much “vacation eating”.  Of course that sounds great in the short run, but in the long run it can lead to summer colds and weight gain. So how can we keep our families feeling tip top this summer?

Well, to start with it is important to recognize that eating healthy keeps us feeling good and helps us to maintain a healthy weight.  Healthy eating includes eliminating as much junk food, fast food and processed food as possible since these foods weaken our immune system.  Additionally, if we look at the foundation of healthy eating we find fruits and veggies which actually improve our immune function. Unfortunately these are often the hardest to get into our families diets on a consistent basis.  If this is your challenge….never fear!  Below there are ten tips for getting your family to eat more of these immune boosters every day!

Our final video in the three-step process of building your dream home with Arthur Rutenberg Homes showcases the construction process with builder Mark Refosco. Fortunately, we were able to visit two very special homes currently under construction in World Golf Village’s King & Bear neighborhood, so you can see the high quality and attention-to-detail Rutenberg delivers.

Mark explains, “You dream, we build” and that’s exactly what they do! One family from northern Pennsylvania chose sunny Northeast Florida for relocation to escape the cold.  As you can see in our video, the weather in February was pretty perfect! The Pennsylvania family took the Mediterranean style plan from the model home we saw on our first video and customized the plan choosing a French Country elevation. They customized the kitchen layout and the owner is working with her cabinet specialist from up north to make her dream kitchen come to life!

Ben became his mentor and gave him lessons on the game of golf. At the crossroads of Dan’s golf ability – Ben wanted him to achieve more and tried to coax him to commit to the game. Dan, a bit frustrated with his swing, told Ben, “I just want to be a sportswriter – I’ve always wanted to be a sportswriter”.

As Dan tells it – Ben paused and riveted him with an amour-piercing look – held eye-to-eye for an uncomfortably long time – then simply said, “Keep working at it”.

The rest is history because Dan Jenkins went on to become the greatest and most revered sportswriter in America – always working at his craft.
