The World Golf Village community has earned a reputation for being one of the best places in Northeast Florida to raise a family—and for good reason! The area offers grade-A schools and an endless list of things to do, including arts, play and sports. One of the organizations in World Golf Village that is actively working to improve the lives of kids on the First Coast is First Tee of North Florida.

First Tee is more than just a youth development organization. It’s a community that empowers kids to build the strength of character that lasts a lifetime. Their experienced instructors use golf to create an active learning experience, where golf skills are more than just a game. Children build inner strength, self-confidence and resilience that translates to their everyday lives. Each year, First Tee reaches 2.2 million youth through its programs. And with over 45 million Americans enjoying golf, it’s a great way to bridge the generational gap through a shared interest.

First Tee of North Florida offers several programs for children looking to embrace the game of golf. A Junior Membership is the first step, as it’s required to register for classes and tournaments. The Membership has two levels (Premium and Standard) and comes with great benefits, including:

  • First Tee polo shirt
  • Member bag tag
  • Course access card good for rounds of golf at participating locations
  • Member benefits at Brentwood Golf Course, including:
    • Range tokens
    • Free greens fees

Young golfers can sign up for classes, either weekly or as part of an after-school program. Weekly classes offer a curriculum tailored to your child’s age and abilities, taught by certified coaches. These classes meet for 1-1 ½ hours once per week for five weeks. First Tee’s convenient after-school classes are a lifesaver for busy families. They offer two types of classes for kids 5 years and older. On-site classes are held at Valley Ridge Academy, PVPV Rawlings Elementary, Timberlin Creek Elementary and Palm Valley Academy. The other option is after-school classes with one-way pickup. Instruction takes place at the Innovator’s Clubhouse at World Golf Village. One-way pickup is offered from Otis A. Mason Elementary, Mill Creek Academy, Picolata Crossing Elementary, Mill Creek Academy and Palencia Elementary School.

Camps keep the golf game going during school breaks, including single-day, winter, spring and weekly summer camps. Girls can join the LPGA*USGA Girls Golf program, designed for players ages 5-18. For kids getting serious about golf, there is the tournament series and playing lessons with a coach. The Pathfinder Program is specifically geared towards teens looking to expand their game, with classes, national playing opportunities and college scholarship programs.

Golf is perceived as an expensive sport, but First Tee knows that golf is for everyone! First Tee of North Florida provides the necessary equipment and doesn’t require fancy shoes or outfits. Parents can also rest easy knowing that First Tee is first and foremost committed to the safety of all children. All employees, coaches and volunteers must complete a thorough background check and the U.S. Center for SafeSport training program.

If you’re looking for something fun and engaging for your child that will create new paths of opportunities, check out First Tee of North Florida!
