As Americans, we love celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with green beer, wacky shamrock sunglasses, corned beef and festooned parades. But if you are one of the 33.3 million Americans who claim Irish ancestry (or you’re just curious), why not spend this St. Patrick’s Day in a more traditional Irish way? Here are four ways to spend your St. Patty’s Day in the way of the Irish of yesteryear:
1. Skip the parades and hullabaloo. For centuries, the Irish honored the patron saint of Ireland St. Patrick by observing March 17 as a holy day with a feast. This included attending mass and gathering for a large family meal. In fact, until the 1970s, many of Ireland’s pubs were closed on St. Patrick’s Day in observance of St. Patrick, who died on March 17, AD 461.

Davidson Cares, the corporate giving program of Davidson Realty, Inc., is preparing to host its Leprechaun Chase 10K/5K and Kid’s Fun Run on Saturday, March 7, in World Golf Village. The race is title sponsored by Charles Schwab.
Davidson Cares invites runners, walkers, strollers and dogs to participate in the St. Patrick’s Day themed race, which will include a leprechaun for runners to chase.
The race will be chip timed and is open to all ages. Registration for the 10K/5K is $25 through February 22, after which it goes up to $30. Registration for children 16 and younger is $15 through February 22, after which it increases to $20.

Davidson Realty President Sherry Davidson is thrilled to join the St. Johns County Education Foundation (SJCEF) Board of Directors! She plans to use her skills in accounting and taxation to serve on the SJCEF Finance Committee. Sherry has always been very passionate about education and SJCEF offers some great programs for our neighborhood schools!
Sherry is President of Davidson Cares, Davidson Realty’s non-profit corporate giving program, which launched in 2011 to provide support for local St. Johns County schools through grants and fundraisers.
