We’re all busy with holiday hubbub and Christmas preparations, but before you know it we’ll be asking each other the same post-Christmas question: “What are your New Year’s plans?” Yes, the time has come to solidify where you will be ringing in 2016!

The First Coast has no shortage of great options no matter where you are in Northeast Florida. Here are some of the big events this year.

FERNANDINA BEACH

New Year’s Eve with Crescendo Amelia (Crescendo Amelia, Fernandina Beach, starts at 8 p.m.) With all-night entertainment from a 21-piece band, who wouldn’t want to go? Enjoy a classic cocktail or glass of wine while you dance the night away. Silent auction and raffle prizes will be offered, and all event profits go to the Nassau Humane Society.

Willie Jewell’s is a great new addition to the restaurants in World Golf Village! I stopped by last week for the first time to check it out and get my barbeque fix. Let me tell you, the food does not disappoint. The Adeeb Family, the owners of Bono’s Pit Bar-B-Q and Willie Jewell’s, really got it right with this one!

Willie Jewell’s offers finger-licking appetizers like Country Corn Fritters, Fried Okra, Chicken Wings, Fried Pickles, and Homestyle Onion Rings. The corn fritters dipped in their homemade ranch dressing is the way to go! They also have a variety of salads, sandwiches, big ol’ platters and southern sides! Our group went for the Crispy Chicken Salad, the Beef Brisket platter and the Smoked Turkey Platter. I tried bites of the mac-n-cheese, collard greens and fries and they were all delicious.

Mirtha Barzaga, a top performing Realtor with Davidson Realty, Inc., will sponsor a Thanksgiving food drive on November 14 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to benefit the Emergency Services & Homeless Coalition of St. Johns County. All are invited to donate to the drive, which will take place at the Heritage Landing Amenity Center at 100 Heritage Pkwy. in World Golf Village. The drive is co-sponsored by Amenity Services Group, Inc.

The Coalition, which provides transitional housing to families and children who have experienced significant challenges, is in need of non-perishables including canned fruit and vegetables, beans, noodles, soups and canned meats.

“This time of year is difficult for many families who are struggling to keep food on the table,” said Mirtha. “The Coalition directly connects these families with resources donated by our very generous community. This food drive is just one way of helping them in their mission.”
