You would be hard pressed to find a more passionate education advocate than Heritage Landing resident Debbie Adams. As a long-time teacher and mother, she utilizes her passion to dedicate her time to several organizations with one common focus: kids. Most recently, she agreed to serve on the Board of Davidson Cares, Davidson Realty’s corporate giving program dedicated to supporting local schools – specifically Wards Creek Elementary, Mill Creek Elementary, Palencia Elementary, and Pacetti Bay Middle School.

For the Maletta family, love and family came full circle right here in St. Augustine. It was here that more than 20 years ago, Tom and Michelle Maletta spent their honeymoon. And, after a couple major moves as well as extensive world travels, it is here where they returned in 2002 to lay roots and raise a family. They discovered their new home in Clubview Estates nestled near the first tee of the King & Bear golf course.

Today, Michele is a busy mother of three who was recently named to the Board of Davidson Cares. We caught up with Michele to ask her about her new appointment and her experiences.

blackfly restaurantI’ve been excited to try Blackfly for a while now.  It started when I first noticed the building one morning following a bike ride in Anastasia State Park.  The restaurant sits just east of the Bridge of Lions and I noticed it because it had been painted a refreshing Caribbean blue.  My curiosity continued when I found out that the same folks who own Collage restaurant in downtown St. Augustine were partners in the new restaurant.  Well, my curiosity was quenched Friday, July 20 when my husband and I enjoyed a great evening at Blackfly.

New Home ConstructionThe signs of an improving real estate market continue in our northeast Florida golf community. Strong increases in pending home sales, decreases in inventory and higher median prices are welcome signs.  The improvements in real estate sales activity dovetails with an increase in new home construction by major national homebuilders.  Says Sherry Davidson, President of Davidson Realty, “Pending sales are very encouraging.  We wrote over 2,100 contracts in May which was a 36 percent gain over last May.  Meanwhile inventory is down year-to-date over 30 percent.”

winston allenLooking for some inspiration to get in shape, live healthier or just fight like heck to reach your goals in life?  Well read on about Glenmoor resident Winston Allen, a 29-year veteran of triathlons and Ironman competitions who still competes at 82 years old.  Even a full knee replacement doesn’t keep Winston down – he just completed another triathlon this past April in Marineland, Florida.

How long have you lived in Glenmoor?
My wife Carolyn and I have lived in Glenmoor, since November 2010. We are not new to the area since we moved to Glenmoor from The Legends, where we resided since November 2004. Prior to that, we lived in Muirfield Village in Dublin, OH., which is an area very similar to WGV.

PORTRAIT-WEBFor Jerry Shagam, “retired” is a relative term.  The Cascades resident “retired” to World Golf Village with his wife, Lynda, about four-and-a-half years ago from their long-time home in Long Island, NY but his calendar remains as busy as ever.  Jerry credits the abundance of social and recreational opportunities that The Cascades offers for keeping him active but it’s as much to do with Jerry’s outgoing personality and community-oriented spirit.  Jerry Shagam has never slowed down, and if you’re lucky enough to run into him at The Cascades Clubhouse for Tuesday morning coffee, maybe he’ll tell you a joke or his latest fishing story (and maybe even a catching story)!

In 1985, Dr. Klatt put his passions for running marathons and fundraising together and spent 24 straight hours running around a track while friends, family and patients watched.  Throughout the evening friends donated $25 to run or walk with Dr. Klatt for 30 minutes, raising $27,000 to fight cancer, and one man’s vision turned into a nation wide event.

health & welness speaker seriesWhen Davidson Realty Agent Ana Speziale extolled the virtues of Wellness Matters, a clinic based in Palencia that helps clients achieve health and wellness through holistic and biological medicine, we invited Co-owner Susan Burns (Wellness Matters is owned by Susan Burns and Kay Turbyfill) to be our featured speaker at the Davidson Speaker Series in February.  It was a fascinating presentation and it made us want to learn more about the clinic and what they do.

“Often times our clients come to us when they have been let down by main stream medicine,” said Burns.  “We practice biological medicine which is an integrated and more thorough approach than traditional medicine.  We’re not concerned with merely treating symptoms; we’re interested in getting to the root cause of a health issue,” explained Burns.
