Davidson Realty agent Mirtha Barzaga recently held back-to-school drives at the King & Bear Amenity Center and Heritage Landing Amenity Center in World Golf Village. Mirtha collected school supplies to benefit kids in need at several St. Johns County Schools.

The turnout was fantastic at both events, helping lots of students to start the school year off right! Generous donors delivered essential supplies like backpacks, notebooks, folders, markers, crayons, scissors and more.

“Many local students don’t have the basic things they need for school, which makes academic success all the more difficult for them,” said Mirtha. “These supplies help give students the confidence they need to learn, knowing they have the necessary tools.”

They knew this was the place for them.

We recently caught up with Marsha to learn more about the Johnsons and their story.

Davidson Realty’s VP of Marketing Peyton Davidson and Marketing Coordinator Matt Burkhart had so much fun delivering grant checks to Palencia Elementary School, Wards Creek Elementary School, Pacetti Bay Middle School and Mill Creek Elementary School! The Davidson Cares’ checks were awarded for the inspiring educational grant request videos submitted by teachers and PTO members for the needs within the schools. Voting for the videos took place from January 24th –  February 28th and teachers, students, parents, friends and the community were allowed to vote once a day for their favorite video from each school. All four schools received a $1,000 grant for the videos with the most votes and Pacetti Bay got an additional $500 for their anti-bullying efforts due to the importance of the cause. When Mrs. Jarrell, the new Principal at A-rated Wards Creek Elementary School in World Golf Village, agreed to create a video tour of the school, it was no surprise she wanted the spotlight to be on the award-winning St. Augustine school and not on herself. The more time we spent with Mrs. Jarrell, the more we came to see why she was the perfect person to continue Don Campbell’s legacy.  She invited us on a private tour of the school, while the children were off having fun for Spring Break!

Wards Creek Elementary School is a top performing school in St. Johns County, which is the top performing school district in the state of Florida. Mrs. Jarrell explains their success is built on strong academics and strong character. The pre-kindergarten through 5th grade elementary school has embraced Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” becoming a Franklin Covey “Leader in Me” School and helping students develop essential life skills and character. Wards Creek Elementary School is working towards Lighthouse Status – there are only 24 Lighthouse Schools in the nation.
