SPRING STORES and MORE

Posted by: Rick Pariani in Community Involvement, News

As our national and local economy remains robust, we can expect many more commercial, retail, office, personal service, dining, and entertainment options to blossom and complement our community.

The greater World Golf Village community has a pair of mixed use “crossroads” that continue to attract a good diversity of development.

The main crossroad complex is at the intersection of International Golf Parkway (IGP), Pacetti Road (C.R. #13A) and S.R. #16. For some time, the intersection has been anchored by a 52,000 SF Publix and a pair of corner drugstores, Walgreens and CVS. The original center, The Shoppes at Murabella, has a full roster of tenants and the Walgreens corner has a new Auto Zone.

There are now many new developments expanding the intersection area. The adjacent Markets at Murabella is anchored by Willie Jewel’s BBQ and Gators Dockside and has more capacity in its soon to develop phase II addition. Another segment, The Markets at Capulet, has filled with businesses and restaurants, stretching east to the Vystar bank, including Cinco de Mayo, Brucci’s Pizza Place, Dunkin Donuts and dueling mattress stores.

Every spring for the past 37 years, historic St. Augustine has stood astheplace for great seafood, live music, and good times. This year, the tradition continues with the 38th St. Augustine Lions Seafood Festival! It all goes down this weekend, March 22 to 24, at Francis Field.

This week, The PGA Tour’s Players Championship will ascend upon Ponte Vedra Beach and tens of thousands of spectators will gather at Sawgrass to watch golf’s greatest players compete.

But, after watching Rickie Fowler finish his last hole of the day, that sinking feeling sets in. Exhausted, you resign yourself to sitting in maddening bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Great news: you don’t have to! There are plenty of activities surrounding the golf course to avoid traffic headaches and have a great time.

The 26th annual Chocolate & Beyond celebration is coming to First Coast Technical College this Saturday, March 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. Visitors will be treated to samples of locally made chocolates, desserts and other sweets from some of our area’s finest restaurants and specialty shops.

Twenty-two years ago, in the Spring of 1997, I moved my family to North Florida. We started our family in Boca Raton, Florida, then moved to Laguna Beach, California. Prior to the Centennial Olympic Games, we relocated to the Buckhead community in Atlanta, Georgia. After the Games, we decamped Atlanta for Ponte Vedra Beach. Once our children were literally off-and-running with their careers, we down-sized into one of Jacksonville’s historic neighborhoods, first platted in 1921.

Before coming here, we did enjoy our lives in those very pretty, and often celebrated, places.  It is true – wherever you are – it is what you make of it. In that regard, it is extremely easy to make our place thoroughly enjoyable. Here are a few things that are extraordinary about this place:

10. Regionally, we are steeped in history, heritage and traditions – from the settlement of St. Augustine in 1565 to the friendly, southern hospitality of today.

9. Friends and family are eager to come for visits – knowing there are numerous local and/or near-by unique events to experience and interesting destinations to explore.

8. The citizenry is active and engaged with a business, manufacturing and military legacy creating a viable, strong economy and a safe and secure community.

The history of Valentine’s Day is rich with lore, but one thing is indisputable: people all over the world are smitten with the sweetest of the holidays, Valentine’s Day!

About one billion Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged each year, making it the second largest card sending holiday of the year. In 2018, Americans spent nearly $20 billion on chocolates, jewelry, flowers and all things Valentine.

Traditions relating to Valentine’s Day date way back to Roman times. It’s difficult to credit a single person named “Valentine” with its origin (there are at least eight St. Valentines on record). And there are at least as many accounts of the holiday’s real origin. Despite that, it officially became a holiday in 1537 as declared by England’s King Henry VIII.

Here are some other interesting stories behind Valentine’s Day traditions:
